The Nordkap 476 {part 13}

      The hiatus is over....time to remove the newspaper canopy form the Nordkap and resume the build.  the Cux is finished......even done by the deadline I had set for it.  through Nordie's short slumber, about five months, I feel as though I learned a lot from the Cux build....particularly in the hull department.  in my last log of the Nordkap, I had shown some concern about the plank lines that showed up in the paint.  I have good reason.

The paint looks terrible!  these lines are everywhere!  this is what I get for not cementing between the planks as I installed them.  I have to remove the paint now, and do it over.  I must try to seal the hull, filling in all these lines.  I would basing this log on the process, but I'm going to hold off for now.  we are in the process of a move to another apartment......it just isn't the right time for that right now.  instead, I figured I would spend some time on the pilot house / helm, making the window frames for it.  I did the port and starboard side windows, before going off in two other tangents...never completing the windows.

      The bow came to mind.....I wanted to install the bow cap for when I was going to paint it.  since I have to remove the paint, I may as well get this done, so I can do it along with the rest of the ship.  in the two pictures above, you can see the two pieces on the aft deck......they are to be the entrance way walls.  I had cut them off of the side walls for the helm room, too stiff to be able to make the bend along the pads in front of the doors.  I had made them before the hiatus.  I abandoned the windows and started to work on them.  there are railing platforms that also have to be cemented onto them.  the platforms are curved to mimic the pads and the walls must conform to them....for this, I used super glue.  before I did this though, I cemented the bow cap on.  I worked on these two aspects in tandem.

      Then, over to the wall assembly..........

      Against the wall, by the doors, there are to be a box....a small locker, if you will.  I also began making those as well, as you can see in the above pictures.

      Then I went back over to the bow, to add more to the assembly.  I mapped out the positions of the chain winch and the gates.  then I went to create the top rails that will connect the existing rails to the bow stem.

      While this process was drying, I went back to the walls.....fitting them and getting them ready for paint.

       I had also painted the doors and installed them.  I had originally stained them, but having to repair them, because they had broke when I cut them out, the stain did not take around the window frames.  I went back to the bow to install the side wall.  I had only installed the starboard side railing, so it was the only side I could do at the moment......the other side will have to be done after the move.  here are also the doors and the name plate on the front of the helm room.

      oh, I forgot about the bow shackle.....I still need to do a bit of shaping to it.

       There is supposed to be a curved section by the cabin wall.  I am going to cut this off flush and make them at a later time.  the bow's top rail still needs to be shaped a bit more....I waiting till I sand the rest of the bow cap assembly.

      It was time to put the finish to the entrance way walls too.  time to end the session......if i don't, I won't stop......

      The next day, I looked over what I had done.  there's just a slight tweak I have to do with the entrance walls, and they will be finished.  the bow, of course, needs more work.  I can do no more......time to pack up my tools, paints and stuff and get ready for the move.  I did this work the week before.....I don't know how I made it through last week without doing any building....it was hard......I need therapy now.  my wife just shook her head.  until we get settled into our new place, and I set up my build area.......AHOY!
